Community Workshops
People making major construction decisions deserve construction-literate guidance, not just a sales pitch.
Whether it’s a disaster rebuild, a first-time renovation, or a community weighing new construction methods, the same gap shows up everywhere: the people making the decision aren’t construction professionals, and most of what’s available to them is either too generic to be useful or comes from someone with something to sell. We deliver workshops and training that close that gap, wherever the need exists.
The problem
General information sessions cover the basics: permitting steps, insurance terms, financing overviews. What they don’t cover is the harder question underneath: is this bid realistic? Does this construction method actually fit this project? What does a given code requirement really protect against, and what does it not? Homeowners and communities are left choosing between generic advice and a contractor’s pitch, with nothing independent and construction-literate in between.
The cost of the gap
A homeowner or organization that accepts the wrong bid, picks a delivery method that doesn’t fit the project, or misses a code requirement doesn’t just lose money. They lose time, and in a capacity-constrained market, a bad early decision can mean falling to the back of every line that matters.
What we offer
Workshops and training delivered directly to the people making the decisions: how to evaluate a contractor bid, when modular or offsite construction is worth considering, what regulatory pathways actually mean in practice, and how to avoid the most common costly mistakes. Content is grounded in the same licensed, construction-literate standard behind our development feasibility work, translated for a non-professional audience. Sessions are scoped to your organization: a single session, a recurring series, or train-the-trainer format for your staff and volunteers.
Proof: where this is already happening
Altadena. In the wake of the Eaton Fire, only about one in five destroyed homes had an issued rebuild permit more than a year later, in a market where contractor capacity is stretched thin by simultaneous rebuilds across the region. Dr. Musson, a lifelong Altadena resident and former three-term West Altadena councilman, works directly with the community he served. Edward ConardEdward Conard
Baltimore. Our development feasibility methods are in active use on multifamily sites there now. The same construction literacy that informs that work informs what we teach.
This isn’t a single-market offering. It travels wherever the need exists.
Why MUSSON Factory
Dr. Musson is a licensed California General Contractor and Real Estate Broker, and his doctoral research examined the exact barriers that stall modern construction methods, the same barriers non-professional decision-makers run into everywhere. He and his wife Dawn organized the first TEDxAltadena in 2024, with a licensed return secured for 2027, evidence of a real, ongoing commitment to community-facing work, not a one-off.
